Lionel Messi At 24 Is Already An All Time Great
Lionel Messi is already considered one of the players of this era, and perhaps of all time, but can he become the all time greatest, sure if you go by the numbers. At only age 24, the baby-faced Argentinian has been piling up individual awards, accolades, and other achievements in record setting pace. His latest achievement is scoring 200 goals in 286 for Barcelona, putting him just a bit behind the all time leader, Cesar Rodrigues.
For comparison, Diego Maradona, the player to whom Messi is often compared to did not nail 200 goals until he was 25 years of age, while the original Ronaldo, the Brazilian who holds two world cups also did not reach 200 goals until age 26. The question remains how does Messi steamroll through opposing players so easy, and the answer is easy, combined with his incredible, speed, natural ability, and a sharp mind, he also happens to play on perhaps, the most dominating team of all time, Barcelona; In 55 games, Pep Guardiola's men have tallied 3 goals or more in 27 of the 55 games, an astonishing number.
Messi is truly this era's greatest player, on the same level as Gretzky in Hockey or Michael Jordan in basketball, at the tender age of 24. It is truly scary to think what might happen in the future if Messi is continuing to play at the pace he is today.
